Viega is building the 204,000-square-foot state-of-the-art manufacturing plant to expand production of its ProPress® Copper product line and create a master distribution facility.
Initial Design with Gravity was needing 3 separate storm drainage lines, each being supplied from 7 gravity roof drains.
Challenge: The initial gravity designed system with sloping horizontal pipes would not allow for the storm drainage to travel all the way to the exterior wall as it encroached below minimum clearance heights. As such, the scheme had internal downpipes leading to extensive excavation, trenching and pipework under the floor inside of the building footprint on all 3 runs.
Mifab HydroMax® Solution: Our design team worked with PEC and completely transformed the initial design by creating a siphonic system fitting within their requirements. The HydroMax® Siphonic design results in the pipework running completely flat without pitch, enabling the storm drainage piping to run high and tight all the way to the west exterior wall of the building. This ability to run the storm drainage to the exterior wall eliminated the need for excavation, as well as reduced the pipe size diameters.
HydroMax® Pipes run completely flat
As a result, the team was able to provide Viega with a more efficient system, while saving an enormous amount of money and labor. The Waldinger Corporation stated that on this particular project they were able to see a 23% saving in material and labor.
“With long runs, bridge cranes, and equipment the leaders needed to fit within the structure limits. The siphoning drains system was the ideal solution.”
